The Odesa Sea Port Authority was visited by a Japanese delegation headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, Mr. Nakagome Masashi, and Chief Representative of the JICA Ukraine Office, Mr. Osamu Hattori

The management of the Odesa Branch of the State Enterprise “USPA” briefed the Japanese delegation on the port’s operations under martial law conditions. During the meeting, the Head of the Odesa Sea Port Authority, Dmytro Nazarenko, presented information on the functioning of the maritime corridor, the consequences of russian attacks on port infrastructure, and the measures being implemented to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the port.

This was the first in-person meeting between the management of the Odesa Sea Port and Embassy of Japan and JICA representatives. Previously, within the framework of Japan’s grant assistance provided through JICA, the port received two wheel excavator-loaders, spare parts for them, equipment for fire-fighting units, and oil spill response equipment.

The purpose of the visit was to deepen understanding of the condition of Ukraine’s port infrastructure amid security challenges, as well as to familiarize the delegation with the current needs of the Odesa Branch of the State Enterprise “USPA” and the use of equipment and machinery provided by the Japanese side.

It is extremely important for us that Japan and JICA not only provide humanitarian and technical support to Ukrainian ports, but also have the opportunity to see firsthand the conditions under which the port sector is currently operating. Despite constant threats and the consequences of attacks, the Odesa Sea Port continues to ensure the stable functioning of the maritime corridor and to carry out strategically important tasks for the country, — said Dmytro Nazarenko.
